Privacy Policy

We built RideBond for riders who care about staying connected on the road. We know how sensitive location and voice data can be — especially in a group setting. This policy is written to be honest and readable, not buried in legalese.

Overview

RideBond ("we", "us", or "our") is a group riding coordination app built for motorcycle riders in India. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights over it. By using RideBond, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. This policy is governed by the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) of India.

Data We Collect

Account & Profile
  • Mobile phone number (used for OTP login)
  • Name and profile photo (set by you)
  • Bike name and model (set by you)
  • Emergency contact name and phone number (set by you)
Location Data
  • Precise GPS location while a Ride Room is active
  • Location is shared in real-time with other riders in your active room only
  • Location is not stored on our servers beyond the duration of an active ride session
  • Location access is only requested when you join or create a Ride Room
Voice Data (Walkie-Talky)
  • Audio is captured only while you actively hold the push-to-talk button
  • Audio is streamed in real-time to other riders in your room and is not recorded or stored
  • Microphone access is requested only when you first use the Walkie-Talky feature
Usage & Technical Data
  • Device model and operating system version
  • App version and crash logs (for debugging)
  • Ride session metadata: start time, end time, room code (not route or GPS history)
  • IP address at login for fraud prevention
Communications
  • Text messages and quick replies sent within a Ride Room's group chat
  • Alerts triggered (e.g. Fuel Stop, Need Help) — stored only for the active session

How We Use Your Data

  • To verify your identity via phone OTP and authenticate your account
  • To enable real-time location sharing within your active Ride Room
  • To operate the group voice (Walkie-Talky) channel within a Ride Room
  • To deliver Quick Alerts and Emergency SOS to riders in your group
  • To display your profile and bike name to riders in rooms you join
  • To send your emergency contact a location alert if you trigger Emergency SOS
  • To fix crashes and improve app performance using anonymised diagnostic logs
  • To send you important service notifications (not marketing) via SMS or push

Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers. We share limited data only with:

  • Riders in your active Ride Room: your name, profile photo, bike name, and live location are visible to room members only while the room is active
  • Emergency contact: your name and live location, only when you trigger Emergency SOS
  • Cloud infrastructure providers (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud) acting as data processors under strict agreements — they store your account data on our behalf
  • Communication providers (e.g. SMS gateway for OTP delivery) — only your phone number, for authentication
  • Law enforcement or government agencies: only when required by a valid legal order under Indian law

Data Retention

  • Account data (name, phone, photo, bike name, emergency contact): retained while your account is active
  • Live location: not stored — streamed only during active ride, discarded when room closes
  • Voice audio: not stored — streamed only, never written to disk
  • Group chat messages: retained for 30 days after the ride session ends, then permanently deleted
  • Session metadata (room code, start/end time): retained for 90 days for fraud and support purposes
  • Crash logs: retained for 90 days, then deleted
  • After account deletion: all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days

Your Rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA), you have the following rights:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Withdrawal of consent: withdraw consent for any processing — this may affect your ability to use certain features
  • Grievance redressal: raise a complaint with our Data Protection Officer
  • Nomination: nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity

Children's Privacy

RideBond is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@ridebond.in and we will delete the account and all associated data immediately.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including encrypted data transit (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of internet transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you via in-app notification and update the "Last updated" date at the bottom of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
